Drama
Whether it is behind the scenes, or under the footlights, students involved with the Kent School Players have the opportunity to shine. Productions consist of a fall play, a Winter One Act Festival and a spring musical. Past productions include As You Like It, Oscar Wilde's Lady Windermere's Fan, The Crucible, Tartuffe and musicals such as Crazy for You, Into the Woods, and our recent hit Once Upon a Mattress. The Music and Dance Departments collaborate in the musical, so students have the chance to work one on one with a professional voice coach and dance instructor. During the winter term students are able to direct, write, cast and produce their own one act plays.
Students also have hands on experience in every aspect of technical theater, such as
costume maintenance, sound design, set design, stage management, and light design. The Kent School Theater facility was recently upgraded with the purchase of new lighting equipment, including an Expression 24/48 computerized light board, and we anticipate more exciting improvements in the years to come!
Beyond the traditional theater program, students have the opportunity to take trips to New York City with the Kent School Theater Club and participate in theater workshops with
professionals who specialize in fields such as stage combat, movement, and acting for film and television. There is also the possibility for highly motivated students to pursue independent studies in the field of the performing arts. Students of any age are welcome into the Kent School Theater Program.
