At Kent, there are people from all over the world with amazing life experiences. Read More
We have many traditions that we're proud of here at Kent. Some of them are pure fun, like Rock Day, when the Fifth formers climb a mountain to paint their colors and graduation year on a large rock and may end up getting some paint on one another as well.
Other rituals are quite important, like Tapping. In one of the last big campus-wide events of the school year, everyone gathers in the chapel where senior leaders—all about to graduate to new academic adventures and new responsibilities—introduce their successors in the fifth form class.
There are sports traditions, like the Spoon Game, an annual day of athletic contests against a rival school. Alumni, faculty and the whole student body get thoroughly wrapped up in this exciting weekend of activities, which culminates in a hotly contested football game under the lights. It's a real showcase event—lots of alumni return to campus to join in the fun. We'd like to add, modestly of course, that we've won far more than we've lost!
But some of our customs are not so much events as simply who we are. For example, we have a long-standing tradition of innovation that’s manifested in everything from our tuition policy to our pre-engineering classes, as well as a tradition of inclusion and community that has been part of our history since our founding.
So silly or serious, solemn or sweet, our campus traditions are often what make Kent Kent. They’ll be some of the events you most look forward to while you're a student, and some of the memories you most fondly cherish after you graduate.
